Old woman gets a new home

KOZHIKODE: Ariyayi Amma, 80, who had been living in a shanty till now, moved into a new house on Wednesday — thanks to the efforts of the East Hill Residents Association (ERA). M.K. Raghavan, MP, honoured Ariyayi Amma with a ponnada and welcomed to the house. A. Pradeep Kumar, MLA, handed over the keys to her.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Raghavan said the association had done a great service by giving her a house. Mr. Pradeep Kumar said he would try his best to provide power connection to the new house and change the APL card she possessed to a BPL one.

Association president N.B. Krishna Kurup presided over the function. Association patron Anil Mathew presented Onam kits on the occasion. Secretary I.K. Nikhil Kumar and others spoke.
