18 held, pirated VCDs seized

Tirupur: The police seized about 1,200 pirated VCDs and DVDs of latest Tamil films and about 120 VCDs with pornographic footage during an intensive raid in video parlours across the district on Saturday evening.

In all, 18 persons were arrested in this connection under Section 63 of Copy Rights Act.

Police sources said the VCDs and DVDs were seized from shops situated at Eswaran Koil road, S. V. Colony, Kongu Nagar, Anupparpalayam, Palladam, Angeripalayam, Sirupooluvapatti and 15 Velampalayam.

The police have arrested seven persons on the charge of gambling at Vellakoil on Saturday evening. The police said cash of Rs 1,000 was recovered from the accused.
