Andhra Pradesh
While I pity the residents of One-Town who suffered during the recent deluge, I am scared of the next one. The next time it could be the turn of Housing Board colony. If such a catastrophe takes place there would be no way to reach it because all the roads will be blocked. The municipal corporation dug up the main road to lay the water pipelines. As the roads were not re-laid, there is mud, debris and slush on the road. A culvert is being constructed on another important road in the colony and is closed for vehicular traffic. One has to walk a considerable distance to board a bus or auto-rickshaw. Unfortunately, the VMC is unmindful of the delay in the execution of the projects. A. Bhavani Durga Vijayawada Protect their rightsThe South Indian cell for Human Rights Education and Monitoring believes that the child has a right to express its view. If we can listen, we will find that children have the ability to give a realistic analysis of many existing ills of the society. Children are to be considered individuals with their own rights. Child abuse and neglect is a violation of children’s human rights and an obstacle to their growth and development. Social reformation through the active participation of school-going children in governance should usher in a new political order. What more powerful gift can we give our children than to equip them with skills that will help them grow. N.S.N. Jawaharlal Vijayawada Blame it on stressThe other day, it was very sad to note that a girl student pursuing intermediate in a corporate junior college, died after jumping from the fifth floor of the college hostel building at Gollapudi. Later, people have come to know that the incident took place due to stress and strain during the extensive study hours.. This was not a single incident. Such incidents took place in corporate colleges in the past too. The government has to take stringent measures to streamline the gamut of functioning of corporate colleges and see that they should not become centres for such heart-rending and deplorable incidents. N. Kripalani Vijayawada In the right directionInteractions between the officials and common people give good result as some of the long-pending problems of people can be solved on the spot. Recently a retired teacher met the Machilipatnam RDO K. Hymavathi . Contrary to the expectations of the public, the official responded with patience and immediately issued instructions to the officials concerned to solve the problem . I request the officials to allocate some time to interact with the public . L.V.S. Kameswara Rao Machilipatnam
