Thirteen die of swine flu

NEW DELHI: As many as 13 people died of the A (H1N1) influenza in the country in the past 24 hours taking the toll to 131. So far this is the highest number of deaths reported in a day .

As many as 93 confirmed cases of swine flu were also reported from across the country.

With this the cumulative number of flu cases has touched 4,738.

The highest number of deaths was reported from Karnataka (7), followed by Maharashtra (3) and Andhra Pradesh (2) . One death was also reported from Gujarat.

As far as the fresh positive cases are concerned, Delhi alone saw 35 in the past 24 hours, Maharashtra 19, Karnataka 17, Gujarat 5 and Chhattisgarh one.

Uttar Pradesh has seen 65 positive swine flu cases between August 31 and September 5, according to a spokesperson of the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry.

Of the 93 new cases, only two are imported cases with patients having a history of foreign travel while the rest are indigenous cases.
