About 500 party workers took out padayatra over 15 km from Gundlapalli to Ongole Market committee passes resolution demanding that Jagan be made Chief Minister
Strong pitch: Congress activists taking out rally in Ongole on Monday. ONGOLE: Activists of the Congress took out two rallies and staged rasta roko on the Chennai-Kolkatta National Highway No 5 near the South bypass road here on Monday demanding that the party high command make Y S Jaganmohana Reddy, son of Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Chief Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. As the high command directed the cadre not to make any demands on Chief Minister issue in the public, MLAs, MPs and other senior party leaders are keeping themselves away from such demands. But they could not prevent party activists from making such demands . So mandal level leaders are leading the enthusiasts to agitate and keep the issue alive. About 500 party workers took out padayatra over 15 km from Gundlapalli to Ongole and staged dharna near Rajiv Gandhi statue on Mangamur road raising slogans that Jagan should be made the Chief Minister to continue the welfare programs launched by his father, Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. They later staged rasta roko on the highway. Slogans raisedAnother batch of party workers from Perchoor constituency reached Ongole by vehicles under the leadership of Bathula Brahmananda Reddy. They took out a rally from Papa rice mill to Rajiv statue and raised slogans. Super bazar chairman, Vemuri Bujji and some party workers observed fast near District Congress office on Sunday making the same demand. But they were subdued today. Congress activists are resorting to rasta roko and rail roko at various places in the district sporadically. Mr Bujji said that district sevadal and Ongole market committee passed resolutions today demanding that Jagan should be made Chief Minister. Minister for Mines, Balineni Srinivasa Reddy will address a condolence meeting here on Sept 10 when a mass feast is organised.
