Data collection for ‘Rachchabanda’ gets ready

S. Harpal Singh

It is a village interactive programme

Online tenders called for 51 permanent helipads on Sept. 4

Sites to construct helipads identified

in all places

ADILABAD: The uncertainty dogging ‘Rachchabanda’, the mass contact programme owing to the untimely demise of Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy may not continue for long if developments here are any indication.

The compilation of village-wise data on the given indicators looks to have slowed down but, the process involving construction of permanent helipads in mandal headquarters is right on course.

Online tenders for construction of the 51 permanent helipads were called on September 4, the day on which these were uploaded on the website. According to officials of Roads& Buildings Department, construction of helipads will not suffer any hindrance as orders were already issued by the former Chief Minister.

Identification of site for the helipads costing Rs. 4 lakh each has been done at all the places. As some of these are to be located in colleges and schools like in the case of Talamadugu and Tamsi mandals, work may get delayed a little more, before proper permission is granted, say the officials.

Adverse effect

The severe drought conditions prevailing in the State a few weeks ago had prompted the government to take steps to mitigate its adverse effects. The ‘Rachchabanda’ (village square), an interface programme with farmers was a part of these efforts. The launch of these interactive sessions on September 2 in Chittor district would have seen Rajasekhara Reddy assuring farmers on the government’s initiative to take care of the drought.

The process of collection of village-wise data by respective Tahsildars on five counts had begun sometime in August. The exercise has been completed in most of the mandals, according to Chief Planning Officer K. Nageshwar Rao.

Drought-related issues

The data garnered relates to many aspects of cultivation especially the effect of drought on agriculture, getting fodder and need for supply of fodder seed, dry fodder, drinking water situation and water transportation, migration of labour due to drought and programming of works under the Employment Guarantee Scheme suited to negate the unfavourable effects of drought.
