‘Towering’ demand

HYDERABAD: A 42-year-old man went up the tower of APTransco in Kushaiguda on Monday morning demanding that Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy be made Chief Minister. He, however, was brought down by the police after a two-hour drama.

E. Malla Reddy, an auto-rickshaw driver, from H.B. colony, climbed up the tower around 7.30 a.m. and sat on a steel beam in the middle of it.

He began shouting that he would end his life by jumping if Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy was not named successor to Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

The Kushaiguda police, led by SI Satish Reddy, rushed to the spot and repeatedly requested him to come down. They tried to convince him that they have no role to play in naming the successor to the late Chief Minister, but the driver was unrelenting.

Later, the police sent a local Venkateswara Rao up the tower to speak to the driver. Rao managed to convince Malla Reddy and brought him down safely. The driver was detained and was being questioned. No case was registered against him yet.
