New Delhi
The second one, Chennai-Delhi, will be launched the following day Sealdah-Delhi train will be bi-weekly while Chennai-Delhi will be weekly NEW DELHI: The Duronto series of non-stop trains will be launched on September 13. The Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee will flag off the first train in the series, the Sealdah-Delhi train, on that day. The second in the series, the Chennai- Delhi train, will be flagged off the following day in Chennai. The Sealdah-Delhi train will be bi-weekly starting from Sealdah on Thursdays and Sundays, while the return journeys from Delhi will be on Mondays and Fridays. The fully air-conditioned train will have the economy class AC coaches as in the Garib Rath and will run faster than the Rajdhani Express on the route taking less time to cover the distance, having just a couple of technical stops. The fares will be the same as charged for the Rajdhani trains. The Chennai-Delhi Duronto will be a weekly train starting from Chennai on Mondays, and from Delhi on Tuesdays. The train will have non-AC sleeper coaches. However, the fares would be less than the Rajdhani Express charges. Unlike in Rajdhani Express, ticket for Chennai-Delhi Duronto does not include catering service. Fitted with stainless steel coaches, both trains are provided with pantry cars. The launch of the third in the series, the one between Howrah and Mumbai, is withheld due to the Assembly elections in Maharashtra. It will be launched after results are out.
