Indian men’s recurve team bows out

KOLKATA: The Indian men’s recurve team bowed out of the 45th world archery championship at Ulsan (South Korea) on Monday losing to China 216-221 in the quarterfinals.

The Indian trio of Rahul Banerjee, Jayanta Talukdar and Mangal Singh Champia won the pre-quarterfinals against Malaysia 217-207 leading the contest throughout. But the Indians found the going tough against the Chinese.

India gained a slender lead 55-54, but China performed exceptionally well collecting 58 points out of 60 from the second end of six arrows to take a four-point lead (112-108).

The Indians failed to rise to the occasion and picked up only 55 points as against China’s 56 (163-168) in the third end, a lead of five points which was extremely difficult to surmount in the final end.

Both the teams shot 53 each in the final end and it was all over for India.
