Subject juniors to sexual, physical torture Threaten to send victims out of the institution NELLORE: A second year MBBS student, M.Viswanath, and a dental student P. Bharat Reddy, who were studying in Narayana Medical and Dental Colleges in Chintareddypalem village, were arrested for allegedly resorting to ragging in the college hostel. The Nellore Rural police summoned the parents of the accused on Tuesday and arrested the two students. According to medical college principal and Anti-Ragging Committee chairman Dr. Ramakrishna, Viswanath and Bharat Reddy entered in to Room No.101 in the hostel on September 3 night at around 10.30 p.m. and behaved indecently with BDS first year students -- P.Sharan Teja, S.Jayanth, N.Mahesh, Hemanth and Priyatam. The accused, who ragged the five juniors up to 4.30 am, threatened to send the victims out of the institution if they reveal the incident to any body. The juniors who went into severe shock did not tell about the nightmare for about three days. But, when the same seniors prepared to rag them for the second time on September 6, the juniors complained to the resident warden, who lodged a complaint with the police. The college management has suspended Viswanath and Bharat Reddy for a year and expelled them from the hostel. A detailed report would be sent to the district Collector and the NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada, on the incident. Viswanath, a native of Kurnool district, was referred to first year due to poor percentage of marks, while Bharat Reddy is a native of Miryalguda in Nalgonda district, said Dr. Ramakrishna. Nellore Rural DSP P.V. Ravi Kumar said that the accused behaved in highly indecent manner and subjected the juniors to sexual and physical torture. The accused were booked under Andhra Pradesh Prohibition of Ragging Act, he said.
