dated September 9, 1959: Elections in Britain

Britain’s general elections will be held on October 8, it was officially announced in London on September 8. An official notice issued by the Prime Minister from 10, Downing Street said: “The Premier has asked Her Majesty the Queen to grant an early dissolution of Parliament. Her Majesty has been graciously pleased to signify her acceptance of this request. Dissolution of the Parliament will take place on September 18. Polling will take place on October 8".
