CHENNAI: Government Kasturba Gandhi Hospital has revamped its Urogynaecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery Inpatients Ward by introducing more patient amenities. Announcing this at a press meet on Tuesday, the department head, N. Rajamaheswari, said that 50 per cent of women above the age of 35 suffer from some kind of urogynaecological problems. But, not too many treatment options are available in the country. Problems such as prolapse of uterus, bladder and bowel, and incontinence of urine are common problems among women. The refurbished urogynaecological ward has new beds, purified drinking water facilities and other amenities that would enhance the quality of treatment offered at the hospital, said M. Mohanambal, Director of the Institute of Social Obstetrics and Government Kasturba Gandhi Hospital for Women and Children. The fistula ward of the Department of Urogynaecology has been treating patients with various urological complications. The department also conducts training programme for urological specialists across the country to enhance their surgical skills. The revamped ward would be inaugurated on Thursday .
