Staff Reporter

Bangalore: The State Government on Tuesday confirmed the death of a 28-year-old man, who died of A(H1N1) in a Government hospital in Bagalkot on September 4. With this the total number of A(H1N1) flu deaths in the State has touched 44.

The latest victim, who was admitted to the Government Hospital on September 2, died on September 4. But his reports confirming that he tested positive arrived only on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, 17 more persons have tested positive for the disease taking the total number of confirmed cases in the State to 619. These include 13 from Bangalore, one from Belgaum, two from Bagalkot and one from Chitradurga, stated a release issued by the health department.

Doctor tests positive

The Casualty Medical Officer (CMO) of Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital in the city, which has recently started screening for A(H1N1) on its premises, has tested positive for the disease. His reports confirming he tested positive arrived on Monday.

Meet inconclusive

The high-level meeting convened to discuss the Government doctors’ demands remained inconclusive on Tuesday, as Additional Chief Secretary Vatsala Watsa, who chaired the meeting, has asked the health department to furnish more details.

Principal Secretary (Health and Family Welfare) I.R. Perumal told The Hindu that the doctors’ main demand for increase in salaries was taken up for discussion. “The Additional Chief Secretary has asked us to clarify on certain points by Friday. If the proposal placed by the department is accepted by the committee headed by the Additional Chief Secretary that has been set up to look into the doctors demands, it will be forwarded to the Law and Finance Departments for further action,” he added.
