In memoriam: A book on poet Sri Sri being released at Tirupati on Thursday. – TIRUPATI: Rich tributes were paid to the memory of noted revolutionary writer Srirangam Srinivasa Rao, better known to the world of Telugu literature as Sri Sri. A special programme was organised in the university town of Tirupati on Thursday to signal the start of the centenary celebrations of Sri Sri. A book entitled, ‘Vidyarthula Kosam Sri Sri’ brought out under the joint sponsorship of the Chittoor District Progressive Writers Association, District Writers Association and Telugu Bhashodyama Samithi was released at a function at the CPI’s meeting here with Kota Purushotham, district president of ARASAM in the chair. Magnum opusWell-known literateur and a recipient of Central Sahitya Academy Award K. Siva Reddy speaking as the chief guest said that Sri Sri’s magnum opus, ‘Maha Prasthanam’ published in 1950 besides revolutionising the entire Telugu literary world also had in it the seeds sown for the other facets of Telugu literature such as Digambara Sahithyam, Viplava Sahithyam, Sthreevada-Dalitha Sahithyam. ‘Maha Prasthanam’ turned out to be their forerunner, he said. Other Sri Sri exponents Bhuman Subramanyam Reddy, Naguluru Dayakar, K. Balakrishna Reddy, Sakam Nagaraja, Phalgunakumar addressing the meet said Sri Sri had stood out as the revolutionary writer par excellence of the century and had greatly impacted the subsequent writers especially the younger ones. They said Sri Sri with his prolific writings had sparked off a ‘literary revolution’ in Andhra Pradesh.
