Christians condole YSR’s death

HYDERABAD: Members of the All Indian Christian Council (AICC) paid glowing tributes to former Chief Minister late Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy in a memorial meet held at YMCA Secunderabad on Thursday. The YMCA hall was crowded and overflowing, as Dr. Reddy’s admirers and well wishers poured in large numbers to pay respect to the departed leader.

Several members of the Christian Council from others parts of the State like Warangal, Rajahmundry, Visakhapatnam and New Delhi also came down to take part in the mourning meet. Pastors from the districts read out passages from the Holy Bible, to comfort the bereaved family members and close friends of Dr. Reddy.

Almost all the speakers recalled Dr. Reddy’s contribution in lending a helping hand to minority community members in the State. While evoking the deeds of Dr. Reddy, several speakers broke down and were inconsolable. Grim faces, black badges and tears marked the proceedings.

“He was a fine politician and our State will miss him. With his welfare programmes, he had managed to provide help to all the sections of the society. He has set an example and would be hard to replicate,” said National Secretary for the Christian Council Dr. Sam Paul.

Dr. Reddy’s interest for minority community was remembered. “His commitment to minority community was exemplary,” said Secretary General of the Council Mr. Prabhu Kumar. Nearly 350 persons participated in the mourning meet at YMCA Secunderabad.
