‘Oppose Yash Pal panel report’
Staff Reporter
ANANTAPUR: The All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) has called upon the intellectuals to oppose the recommendations of Prof. Yash Pal Committee stating that they are aimed at destroying the education sector in the country.
Speaking at a meet on the problems dogging the education sector, State president of AIDSO S. Govindarajulu said here on Friday that the rot crept into the system in 1986 under the guise of National Education Policy, which made education go commercial. Its roots penetrated so deep that it’s looking difficult to uproot them, he said.
The governments are slowly shedding their responsibility of providing education to masses by allowing private individuals and organisations to trade education and fleece huge fee.
The recommendations of Yash Pal Committee are aimed at bringing education into the purview of WTO and GATT, he alleged.
Once implemented the recommendations will facilitate scrapping of regulatory bodies like UGC, AICTE, MCI and others and enable setting up National Commission for Higher Education and Research (NCHER) as a dictatorial body, he alleged. The new body would allow easy entry of foreign universities and institutions into the country, he alleged.
District president of the student body D. Raghavendra said the grading system, instead of exams, will completely ruin the merit in education.
