Anna’s advice to Cabinet colleagues
S. Vydhianathan
“People have reposed great faith in our party and it is our bounden duty to live up to their expectations. Your attitude must be positive. You must act fairly and according to your conscience.” This was the advice of former Chief Minister C.N.Annadurai to his colleagues at the first Cabinet meeting, according to S.Madhavan, the youngest Minister in Annadurai’s Cabinet who held the portfolios of Law, Cooperation and Housing.
Anna’s advice to Ministers on how to deal with IAS officers is well-known. He told his Cabinet colleagues to treat them with respect: “It is possible for the officers to become Ministers but not for ministers to become officers,” he is reported to have told them.
