MIM to contest 2 seats in Maharashtra

Special Correspondent

Hyderabad: The MIM plans to expand its base beyond the State capital and for the first time the party is seriously contemplating testing its strength in Maharashtra where the Assembly elections are due next month.

The Majlis has set its eyes on Nanded and Latur. It has decided to field its candidates for these constituencies which were part of the erstwhile Hyderabad State. These Assembly segments have a sizeable minority population and the party is confident of winning the seats. In fact the Majlis has already set up its units here and is working with the local populace for quite some time. “After Ramzan we will take up active campaigning. All our legislators, including myself, will visit Nanded and Latur,” said party president, Asaduddin Owaisi. Mr. Owaisi, meanwhile, took stock of the arrangements being made for the ‘Jumatul Vida’ (last Friday of Ramzan) prayers at Makkah Masjid and urged party workers to make the ‘Yumul Quran’ programme a success.
