VIJAYAWADA: Chittoor won the Venkagiri Cup for ACA South Zone inter-district (seniors) tournament by garnering 13 points at Anantapur. The last league matches were reduced to 20 overs-a-side owing to rain. The scores: Kadapa 87 for nine in 20 overs (Praveen Kumar three for 17) lost to Anantapur 88 for two in 15.2 overs (Fayaz Ahmed 41, Shashavali 37). Chittoor 115 in 19.1 overs (Rakesh 47, Noushad three for 14) bt Nellore 67 in 14.1 overs (Siva Bhaskar Reddy four for 18, Vishnuvardhan Reddy three for 11). Krishna triumphsKrishna won the S. Mastan Rao memorial trophy for the ACA Central Zone inter-district (seniors) tournament by hauling 10 points at Guntur. The final league match between Krishna and Guntur was called off owing to heavy rain. Chess trialsThe trials to select Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences chess men and women’s teams will be held at the Dr. Pinnamaneni Siddhartha Institute of Medical Sciences at Chinnaoutpalli on September 19 and 20, according to E. Thrimurthy, secretary, Sports Board here on Monday. The selected team will participate in the South-West inter-university championship to be held at Periyar University at Salem from September 30 to October 4. Archery trialsThe trials to select Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences archery men and women teams will be held at Siddhartha Medical College at Vijayawada on September 23. The selected team will take part in the all-India inter-university archery championship to be held at M.L. Sukhadia University at Udaipur from November 1. Sai in ANU teamD. Sai Srinivas of Velagapudi Ramakrishna Siddhartha Engineering College (VRSEC) has been selected to represent Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) chess team in the all-India inter-university tournament to be held at Salem (Tamil Nadu) from September 30. VRSE College finished fourth in the ANU inter-collegiate chess tournament that concluded at Sadineni Chowdaraiah College of Arts and Sciences at Maddirala recently.
