Chennai airport runway to be fully operational
P. Oppili
CHENNAI: The main runway at the Chennai airport, which was hitherto closed between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. to facilitate the laying of a three-link taxiway, will resume normal operations on Wednesday.
Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials said that the work began on July 1 and was completed within the stipulated time. The link taxiway would help in moving aircraft to the main runway and away from it before takeoff and after landing. The AAI authorities had also completed ‘shoulder merging’ and runway-end safety area works.
From Wednesday, the secondary runway would be closed between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. for taking up the link taxiway construction work. The work would be completed in three month.
Maintenance of the main runway would be taken up thrice a week between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
