Glittering launch of new sari brand

Hema Malini unveils ‘Vastra Kala Pattu’

ELEGANCE: Actor Hema Malini with women achievers who were felicitated, at the launch of a sari brand of Pothys in Chennai on Monday.

CHENNAI: In a star-studded event, actor and politician Hema Malini unveiled ‘Vastra Kala Pattu,’ a new sari brand by Pothys, here on Monday.

The sari collection is a confluence of north and south, with the zardosi and minakari works aesthetically adorning the Kanchipuram silk sari. The saris have intricate weaving techniques such as Polki and Kundan where stones are embedded on the silk with gold and silver threads. Launching the sari, Ms. Hema Malini said “Indian women look the best in saris as it symbolises the elegance and grace of feminity. The fusion of north and south in the sari is an innovative venture to attract the south Indian women who are increasingly preferring north-Indian works.”

Ms. Hema Malini, who was sporting a peach sari with elaborate works of Swarovski crystals, said the ‘Vastra Kala Pattu,’ sari would revive and popularise the artistic tradition of India.

“The sari has the solidity of south with the flamboyance of the north.”

On her directorial ventures, she said she has plans to come up with two films shortly and more would be on the anvil depending on their success.

As a parting remark, she offered a piece of advice to up and coming actors: “Work-out is the best way to stay in shape. It needs a lot of discipline to maintain it.”

Marking the event, women who have made a mark in their respective fields were honoured. Singer Anuradha Sriram, doctor Priya Selvaraj, ad director Latha Menon, fashion designer Irum Ali and singer-director Anitha Udip were felicitated.

A ramp-walk of Ms. Chennai winners was held. Managing Partner of Pothys S. Ramesh spoke.
