Madikeri
Madikeri: The famous annual Teertodbhava would take place at Talacauvery in Kodagu at 4.35 p.m. in the Meena Lagna on October 17, according to a press release here on Thursday. The time of the Teertodbhava was informed to the district administration here by the Agama Pandits of the Department of Muzrai. Goddess Cauvery is believed to emerge from the Brahmakundike (tiny pond-like niche) at Talacauvery in the form of “Teerta” (holy water) at the appointed time. Devotees from across the State, neighbouring States, apart from all parts of Kodagu, throng the Talacauvery on that auspicious day. Deputy Commissioner K.H. Ashwatha Narayana Gowda, who presided over a preliminary meeting here, said that every district-level official should take part during the occurrence as the Bhagamandala and Talacauvery Temple Management Committee ceased to exist. The State Government was providing Rs. 2 lakh for the Cauvery Jatra and also funds for drinking water. He instructed the Public Works Department to do up the roads leading to Bhagamandala and Talacauvery before October 15 and put up barricades wherever necessary to check the crowd and vehicles. Mr. Gowda told Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) to provide uninterrupted power supply in Bhagamandala and Talacauvery on October 17 and October 18 in view of the expected gathering at these places. Cleanliness should be maintained at all costs and it should be monitored by the Bhagamandala Gram Panchayat, he said. Mirza Akbarulla, Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Panchayat, said that respective gram panchayats along the Madikeri-Bhagamandala route would be told to decorate their areas with festoons and illuminations. Keshavamurthy, Executive Engineer, Panchayat Raj Engineering Division, said that he would take steps to provide clean drinking water at the pilgrim places. Mr. Gowda told the officials concerned to ensure sanitation, toilet facilities, additional transport services and ban the use of plastic. Matanda C. Monnappa, president of the Akhila Kodava Samaja, appealed to the Deputy Commissioner to ban the sale of liquor in and around Bhagamandala on October 17 and October 18. Mr. Gowda said the liquor ban would come into force in and around Bhagamandala from 6 a.m. on October 17 to 6 p.m. on October 18.
