Entrepreneurs and industrial associations asked to take the initiative ‘Salem district has good potential for growth of the textile industry’ SALEM: Entrepreneurs and industrial associations should come forward to take up cluster development projects under public- private partnership mode in the textile sector, Director (Cluster Development), Textile Committee, Government of India, D.P. Jadeja has said. The government was implementing a number of programmes for the promotion of cluster development activities in the textile sector. The entrepreneurs and industrial associations should take the initiative and approach the government for establishing common facilities under cluster development, he told media persons here on Sunday. He was here to participate in the self-help group development programme organised by the Salem District Small Scale and Tiny Industries Association and the Salem Productivity Council at Thiagarajar Polytechnic College. Salem district has good potential for the growth of the textile industry. If the entrepreneurs in the district could come up with a proposal to establish weaving and apparel park, they would be able to get assistance from the government, he added. Mr. Jadeja said that self-help groups were being given priority and were being provided with assistance under various cluster development programmes. Entrepreneurship Development and Cluster Development Expert V. Padmanaban stressed that the initiative for starting hi-tech industrial parks and other cluster development projects should come from the industry. The government could play the role of a facilitator and provide funds.
