CPI (M) for new law to check attacks on women

HYDERABAD: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has demanded that the State government enact a new legislation to exclusively deal with attacks on women and initiate stringent action against those indulging in such incidents. The government should set up special courts for expeditious trial of cases pertaining to attacks on women and efforts should be made to revive the Andhra Pradesh State Women’s Commission to ensure regular monitoring of issues relating to women.

The CPI (M) wanted the government to take suggestions from women’s organisations, civic society organisations, political parties and others concerned to take legal and administrative measures to check atrocities on women which were on the rise. In a letter addressed to Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, CPI (M) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu expressed concern over the increase in attacks on women and the government’s “failure” to check them.

Moreover, the government did not wake up to the caution given by the Central authorities that Andhra Pradesh ranked first in the country in attacks on women.
