Corrections and clarifications

The expansion of CoBRA, as given in a report “Seven Maoists, CRPF officer killed” (September 19, 2009, page 1), is Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), and not Combat Battalion for Resolute Action as a reader says it is. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs, Naxal Management Division, clarifies that 10 battalions of specialised forces trained and equipped for counter-insurgency and jungle-warfare operations, and named as Commando Battalions for Resolute Action (CoBRA), have been raised as a part of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). In the first phase, key location points of two battalions have been raised at Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh and Koraput in Orissa, and the remaining battalions will be established in other naxal affected States. Nine teams each of 201 and 202 CoBRA battalions were trained and deployed for operational duties on May 15, 2009. The remaining nine teams each of 201 and 202 battalions commenced their training on May 4, 2009.
