One more killed in Lalgarh
Raktima Bose
KOLKATA: The spate of Maoist killings in the Lalgarh region of West Bengal’s Paschim Medinipur district continued unabated as one more person was gunned down at Belpahari late on Sunday.
The victim, Buddheswar Mandi (50), was a resident of Kalapathar village in the Belpahari block, adjacent to Lalgarh. He was a member of the Gana Pratirodh Committee set up in December 2008 to resist Maoist activities in the region.
Police sources said a group of armed men raided Mr. Mandi’s house and dragged him out. The assailants then shot him dead and left shouting pro-Maoist slogans.
Several Maoist leaflets were also found at the spot, the police said. Prominent Maoist leader Bikas claimed responsibility for the killing , adding that Mr. Mandi was killed for his alleged links with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the police.
