Overbridge was thrown open to the public in 2007 Officials have not taken steps to rectify situation
Neglected: The damaged steps leading to the foot overbridge in Salem Town Railway Station need immediate attention. — SALEM: The damaged steps leading to the foot overbridge in Salem Town Railway Station remain a cause for serious concern. The railway administration had constructed the foot overbridge a few years ago. It was thrown open for the public in 2007. Train serviceAs the Railways had commenced the train service in Salem – Viridhachalam section, the town railway station has started getting a sizable number of passengers, who find the foot overbridge very safe to cross the railway tracks. People who come to station to book tickets in the reservation centre also use the bridge. But the steps leading to the bridge are damaged and pose danger to commuters. Passengers have to take extra caution while using the damaged steps. A few passengers have tripped on the damaged steps and fallen down, sustaining injuries. Despite repeated representations from the passengers, officials have not done anything to rectify the problem and make the steps leading to the bridge safe for those who use them. ‘No action’“We have taken this issue to the notice of the senior officials on several occasions. But no fruitful measures have been taken up to sort out the problem so far,” they claim.
