Protest against collection of toll for vehicles

UP IN ARMS: Members of All India Road Transport Workers Federation staging a demonstration in Tuticorin on Tuesday.

Tuticorin: Members of the All India Road Transport Workers Federation (AITWF), Tuticorin branch, affiliated to the Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) staged a demonstration in front of the Collectorate here on Tuesday.

Its State secretary M. Murugan, who led the agitation, expressed his disappointment over collection of toll from vehicles. He said the entry fee collected were high and not affordable to all. Road tax, which is likely to be implemented soon, must not be levied On cancellation of driving licenses, he said that action was taken against drivers involved in road accidents without taking into account that bad condition of roads was the prime reason why many accidents took place.

Mr. Murugan also stressed the need for raising awareness about road safety rules among the public.
