Lankan navy destroys nets of TN fishermen

PUDUKOTTAI: Sri Lankan navy reportedly opened fire in the air in the early hours of Tuesday and destroyed the fishing nets and the catch of four mechanised boats off Kottaipattinam coast in Pudukottai district.

A senior official of the Fisheries department told The Hindu that 12 fishermen of Kottaipattinam coast ventured into the sea in four mechanised boats on Monday and the incident occurred while they were fishing in the sea in the early hours on Tuesday.

The official pointed out that the fishermen who reached the shore in their boats said that Sri Lankan navy warned the fishermen after destroying the nets.
