CHENNAI: Kiran Dhingra, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, recently inspected works being undertaken in the city under the Basic Services for Urban Poor (BSUP) scheme being implemented by the Chennai Corporation.
She also distributed Rs.11.44 lakh to 1,144 members of 60 SHGs as revolving funds under the Swarna Jayanthi Shahari Rozgar Yojana.
Already, a total of Rs.1.51 crore has been given to 915 groups. Mayor M. Subramanian said that under the BSUP, Rs. 200 crore had been sanctioned to the city.
He said the Central and State governments were giving Rs.1.17 lakh as assistance to those belonging to BPL.
Director of Municipal Administration P. Senthil Kumar and Corporation Deputy Commissioners M. Balaji and Jyothi Nirmala were present.
