KOCHI: Congress president Sonia Gandhi will inaugurate the 29th plenary session of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) to be held at the Marine Drive grounds from October 9 to 12. INTUC president G. Sanjeeva Reddy inaugurated a reception committee meeting for the preparation of the event here on Tuesday. Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Ramesh Chennitala and United Democratic Front (UDF) convener P.P. Thankachan were among the Congress leaders who participated in the meeting. Coming down heavily on the CPI(M)’s anti-worker attitude, Mr. Reddy said the West Bengal government’s policies had rendered thousands jobless. Mr. Chandy said the State government had no human face and had nothing to offer for the workers’ welfare. INTUC State president R. Chandrasekhar said Union Ministers A.K. Antony, Vayalar Ravi, Pranab Mukherjee and Sushil Kumar Shinde would participate in various sessions of the programme.
