MADURAI: Over 200 candidates will receive their Ph.D. degree at the Madurai Kamaraj University annual convocation to be held here on October 13 while prizes and medals would be presented to 72 students during the 43rd convocation. According to S. Shanmugiah, Controller of Examinations, totally 35,000 candidates of both regular and distance education streams would receive their degrees in absentia this year. Ved Prakash, Vice-Chairman, University Grants Commission, would deliver the convocation address and Governor/Chancellor Surjit Singh Barnala would preside over the varsity’s convocation. The university is conferring Doctor of Science (honoris causa) on N. Vedachalam, an eminent scientist at the Indian Space Research Organisation, on the recommendation of the Syndicate and Senate.
