BANGALORE: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Friday went around three rain-affected areas — New BEL Road, Subedarpalya, and Shankarnagar in Mahalakshmi Layout — in the city and was flooded by complaints from residents. Residents narrated their woes about not being able to wear even a set of decent clothes as they were all still damp following Thursday’s downpour that inundated their houses. Mr. Yeddyurappa went to the house of Venkatesh, a physically challenged man who lost his ox in the floods, and offered him a compensation of Rs. 10,000. However, someone in the crowd jeered saying the amount was a pittance.
The Chief Minister, caught off guard, called his officials to bring a cheque for another Rs. 10,000. When there was a delay, Mr. Yeddyurappa beat a retreat, promising additional compensation to Mr. Venkatesh.
