KADAPA: Siva Kumar, district manager of GVK EMRI 108 ambulance service, on Friday called upon pregnant women to avail of 108 ambulance services for safe travel to hospital, rather than use other modes of transport. The safety of the mother and child would be ensured by the doctor attending them in the ambulance if at all a woman delivered en route hospital, he told a news conference at EMRI regional office here. Twenty ambulances operating in Kadapa district attended to 7,042 emergency calls last month. Of them, 4,487 pertained to medical needs, 121 for police assistance and 663 for pregnancy cases, he said. Out of 130 delivery cases every day, only 30 pregnant women utilised 108 ambulance and hence a drive was undertaken with the help of DMHO T. Venkataramana Reddy, ANMs and Aasha workers in Kadapa to motivate pregnant women to use the ambulance. Awareness programmeAn awareness creation programme would be taken up in areas inhabited by minorities in Kadapa and Rayachoti mandals by a door-to-door campaign of distribution of pamphlets printed in Urdu, Mr. Siva Kumar said. Awareness would also be created on prevention of dengue, chikungunya and swine flu. Cooperation of NCC cadets and NSS volunteers was solicited for enlightening members of workers’ unions in cement factories and other industrial units in Kadapa district, the EMRI district manager said. Awareness campaigns had been taken up in schools, colleges and Yogi Vemana University. EMRI staff undertook a sanitation drive in the primary health centre at Railway Kodur recently. Sanitation drive would be taken up in one PHC every month.
