MLAs express concern over spread of swine flu Collector asks officials to erect flex boards ONGOLE: District Collector Kantilal Dande asked the medical and health officials to launch a vigorous campaign to create awareness among people about swine flu, dengue and other seasonal diseases and conduct medical camps in villages. At the District Planning Committee meeting held here on Friday, Kandukur and Giddalur MLAs M. Mahidhara Reddy and A Rambabu expressed concern over the threat of swine flu spreading in the district. Mr Mahidhara Reddy pointed out that large number of people travel between Kandukur and Hyderabad by 20 buses every day facing the risk of the flu and yet medical and health officials did not conduct any meeting in the town till now. Responding to this, Mr Dande asked the health officials to arrange flexi boards at important junctions and bus stations to create awareness about the diseases. He wanted them to involve elected representatives like MPTCs, ZPTCs and sarpanches in the campaign. Mr Dande said that many social welfare hostels lacked minimum facilities like drinking water and toilets and proposals have been sent to the government to create these facilities at a cost of Rs. 3.8 crores. He said doctors would visit the mandals to issue certificates to handicapped persons so that the latter need not come all the way to Ongole for the purpose. District Cooperative Central Bank chairman B Sankara Reddy wanted the agricultural department to supply 30 per cent of the fertilisers through primary cooperative societies. Complex fertilisers which are in demand should also be supplied through societies.
