Semifinalists spotted

TIRUCHI: Southern, East Coast, South Central Railways and RPSF advanced to the semifinals in the all-India RPF & RPSF inter-zonal volleyball tournament here on Friday.

The results (quarterfinals): Southern bt North Eastern 25-9, 25-7; East Coast bt Western 25-19, 25-15; South Central bt Northern 25-17, 25-11; RPSF bt Eastern 25-14, 25-11.

Murugesh (45 n.o. & four for 17) starred in Theni Kammavar Sangam CT’s 31-run win over Chinnamanur CC in a first round match of the Theni DCA Twenty20 cricket tournament for the Balu Alaganan Trophy in Theni on Friday.

The scores: Second round: Dangerous Boys 110 in 20 overs (Saffiq 43, Elango four for 25) lost to Bharath Niketan EC 111 for five in 16.5 overs.

First round: Kombai CC 124 for five in 20 overs (Jagan 49) bt Anandam Textiles CC 107 in 20 overs.

Sachin Star 136 for seven in 20 overs (Anbu 68) bt Usilampatti CC 111 in 18.2 overs (Selvakumar 40).

Theni Kammavar Sangam CT 103 for three in 20 overs (Murugesh 45 n.o.) bt Chinnamanur CC 72 in 15.2 overs (Murugesh four for 17).
