Sunil Shastri returns to Congress fold

LUCKNOW: The former Uttar Pradesh Minister, Sunil Shastri, on Friday returned to the Congress fold after about 11 years. He rejoined the party in the presence of the Pradesh Congress Committee president Rita Bahuguna Joshi at the party headquarters here. Mr. Shastri, son of the former Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri, described his return to the party as homecoming. He said he had informed party president Sonia Gandhi about his willingness to join the party before the Lok Sabha election.

After quitting the Congress owing to “differences with the then AICC president, Sitaram Kesari,” Mr. Shastri joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and remained its general secretary and spokesperson. He later quit the BJP and formed an organisation, “Jai Jawan Jai Kisan.”
