BANGALORE: If you succeed in getting three days’ leave from your boss next week, you can enjoy an extended holiday of nine days from September 26 to October 4, thanks to the holidays on Vijayadashami and Gandhi Jayanthi. However, this “luxury” will be available only for those who have five-day week work system. While September 26 is a Saturday, September 28 (Monday) is a holiday on account of Vijayadashami. Many working people are unhappy that Ayudha Puja, one of the occasions to get holiday, has fallen on Sunday this time. If you take leave on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Friday is again a holiday on account of Gandhi Jayanthi. Thus, you can wind up your nine-day holiday stint by October 4, Sunday. Every year, almost all offices, government and private alike, slip into holiday mood beginning Dasara till the Deepavali celebrations end, just like December and January in the West on the occasion of New Year. As this extended weekend comes in the middle of school holidays for many, people have been packing their luggage for holiday trips and for visiting their native places. Dakshayini, whose son is studying in one of the Kendriya Vidyalayas in the city, said her family was planning a long outing, beginning Saturday, as Kendriya Vidyalayas have Dasara vacation from September 25 to October 5.
