Nagarjunasagar to get water from Oct. 15
HYDERABAD: The State government has decided to release water for the Nagarjunasagar project to 12.33 lakh acres ayacut for the ensuing rabi season.
Accordingly, the Irrigation Department will release 170 tmcft of water – 85 tmcft each into the Left and Right canals of the project – from October 15. The Left canal covers an ayacut of 5.93 lakh acres spread over Nalgonda, Khammam and Krishna districts while the right canal caters to 6.33 lakh acres in Guntur and Prakasam districts the department had already released water to cater to the drinking water needs of the districts covered under Nagarjunasagar.
Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah met Chief Minister K. Rosaiah and briefed him about the availability of water in the State. Speaking to reporters later, he said the department would also release 0.3 tmcft of water from Singur to protect standing crop in Medak district and Devadula wouldcater to the cotton crop in Dharmasagar area.
