Sagar water for Zone II sought

ONGOLE: Nearly 300 farmers from Kanaparthi village met Minister for Mines Balineni Srinivasa Reddy here on Saturday and sought release of Nagarjunasagar water for Zone II also so to raise paddy on 5,000 acres under the Gundlakamma Lift Irrigation scheme.

The farmers came by tractors and submitted a memorandum to the Minister. They cultivate paddy under Gundlakamma check-dam near Karavadi. Seepage and drainage Water from Nagarjunasagar canals in Zone II reaches the check-dam to help farmers raise paddy on 5,000 acres every year.

They said that they can raise the crop if half a tmcft of water was released to them from the Gundlakamma reservoir. Since no other crop save paddy can grow in the saline coastal lands, they urged the Minister to bail them out of the crisis.
