‘Healthy Walk’ programme marks World Heart Day

Cardiologists explain heart diseases



BURNING CALORIES: The healthy walk organised in connection with ’World Heart Day’ in Tiruchi.

TIRUCHI: The World Heart Day was observed in a unique manner on Sunday with ‘Healthy Walk’ organised by the Kavery Medical Centre and Hospital here on Sunday.

People who underwent cardiac surgery and those who recovered from cardiac ailments after treatment participated in the walk in the St. John’s Vestry Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School ground in the city.

Cardiologist Chenniappan spoke on ‘life after heart diseases’. Cardiologists N. Senthilkumar, S. Aravindkumar and cardiothoracic surgeons T. Senthilkumar and G. Selvamani explained cardiac diseases and answered queries from the gathering.

KMC Hospital managing director S. Chandrakumar, medical director T. Senthilkumar and executive director S. Manivannan spoke about the significance of World Heart Day theme.

They pointed out that regular exercises, maintenance of correct body weight, less intake of salt and stopping of smoking would help prevent cardiac problems.

The doctors said that the World Heart Federation had launched the theme on the World Heart Day to create awareness about cardiac diseases and healthy lifestyle among people. Most of the premature deaths due to heart diseases and stroke could be avoided if tobacco usage, unhealthy diet and physical inactivity are controlled, they said.
