Two killed and five injured in accident

TIRUVARUR: Two bystanders were killed and five others injured when a car in which DMK cadres were proceeding to Tiruvarur from Thanjavur swivered while trying to overtake another vehicle at Kilariyam near Koradachery on Wednesday morning.
The car driver had reportedly attempted to catch up with the Chief Minister’s convoy heading towards the Tiruvarur Collectorate for the inaugural function of the Central University, when the accident took place.
The deceased were identified as S. Kamaraj (35) and Arumugam (63), both belonging to Kilariyam village. Panneerselvam (40) of Kilariyam who sustained grievous injuries was admitted to the Thanjavur Medical College Hospital, while the rest: Ashok (7) and Valarmathi (53) also of Kilariyam village, and Manikandam (17) and Sandhya (6) belonging to Krishnagiri district were admitted to the Tiruvarur Government Headquarters Hospital.
The car driver fled the scene. The Koradachery police have registered a case.
