Swaralaya fete begins today

PALAKKAD: The 11-day-long Swaralaya Dance and Music Festival-2009 will be inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Finance S.S. Palanimanickam at Rappadi Auditorium here on Thursday. Minister for Cultural Affairs M.A. Baby will preside over the function.

This will be followed by a carnatic vocal concert by Sanjay Subramaniam.

The highlights of the programme include a ganamela (‘Pattinte Palazhi’) by singers Biju Narayanan, Gayathri, Kallara Gopan and others and Bharathanatyam by Shridhar and Anuradha Shridhar on October 2.

A Bharathanatyam recital by Meenakshi Srinivasan will be held on October 4 and music fusion by Mattannur Sankarankutty, K.L. Sreeram and Prakash Ulliyeri, on October 5. A Ghazal concert by Hariharan will be held on October 6 followed by Odissi dance by Vani Madhav. S. Soumya will render a carnatic vocal concert on October 7. A Bharatanatyam recital by Padma Subramaniam and Gayathri Kannan will be held on October 8. Actor Shobana will give a Bharatanatyam recital on October 10.
