Sudershana Rao fails to make it to the coveted post again Collector administers oath of office to the newly-elected Chairperson VIZIANAGARAM: Bellana Chandrasekhar, ZPTC member from Cheepurupalli, was elected unanimously as Chairperson of the Zilla Parishad on Wednesday. At the special session of the Zilla Parishad, Collector G. Ram Narayana Reddy, who was the Election Officer, sought names of the contenders for the post. As there was no one in the race from Congress side, Gulipalli Sudershana Rao, vice-chairperson, who was an aspirant till Tuesday, surprisingly, proposed the name of Mr. Chandrasekhar and D.S. Sitarama Raju, ZPTC member from Nellimarla, seconded him. The Collector, who waited for a few minutes to hear from other members, finally declared the election of the candidate as “unanimous”. All the nine TDP ZPTC and one CPI (M) member stayed away from election process. Mr. Sudershana Rao failed to make it to the coveted post for the second time. Owing to rivalry between groups led by Ministers Botsa Satyanarayana and S. Vijayarama Raju he lost the chance in 2007 and now. The post fell vacant following election of Mrs. Botsa Jhansi Lakshmi to the Lok Sabha in the by-election to Bobbili parliamentary constituency and again after Baddukonda Appala Naidu was elected to the Assembly in April this year. According to informed sources in the party, during talks between ZPTC members, MLAs and party observer M. Gangadharam and Minister Satyanarayana, there was a clear indication that Mr. Sudershana Rao would be made Chairperson. On Wednesday the leaders met at the DCC Office and finalised the name of Mr. Bellana Chandrasekhar. Soon after the unanimous election, the Collector administered the oath of office to the newly elected Chairperson in the presence of Minister Satyanarayana and other Congress MLAs. Later, at a joint press conference, Mr. Satyanarayana, Mr. Gangadharam and DCC president K. Veerabhadra Swamy said that the unanimous election of Mr. Chandrasekhar was ample proof of unity among party leaders and with this zeal they would fight the elections in future. Mr. Satyanarayana said that Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, PCC president D. Srinivas and Rajya Sabha member K.V. P. Ramachandra Rao greeted the party leaders for electing the Chairperson unanimously.
