KIMS to observe international breast cancer awareness month from Oct. 1 200 poor women to be screened free of cost for breast cancer at KIMS HYDERABAD: P. Raghu Ram, a breast cancer specialist, has said that two men diagnosed with breast cancer were under his care. He told a press conference here on Wednesday, ahead of international breast cancer awareness month from October 1, that breast cancer among men was nothing new in India but people were not aware of it. There were no accurate figures about the spread of the disease in the country. In England where he practised earlier, around three hundred new cases came to light every year. He also said that men were not immune to the disease because they too had breast tissues. Dr. Raghu Ram announced that two hundred poor women would be screened for breast cancer free of cost as part of the awareness month at the Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS). All those who were diagnosed with breast cancer would be treated at the same hospital free of cost. The treatment, including surgeries, would be under the aegis of Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation of which he is the chief executive officer (CEO). Awareness walkThe other programmes by the foundation during the month included a walk, by breast cancer patients and those expressing solidarity with them, from KBR Park to Jubilee Hills check-post here on October 4. Film actress Shabana Azmi would address a meeting the same evening. On October 15, a play ‘Goodbye to my breasts’ would be staged by the theatre group of Mala Pasha at Secunderabad Club. Another play directed by Lillete Dubey was also proposed in the city on October 21.
