Natl. racing championshipThe sixth and final round of the JK Tyre National racing championship begins at the Irungattukotai Motor Race Track here on Saturday. After qualifying and the first race in each category on Saturday, the championship will conclude with the final races on Sunday. Speed NK Racing’s Ashwin Sundar, who won both races in round five, leads the Formula Rolon category with 52 points. Just two points behind Ashwin is Red Rooster’s Gaurav Dalal, who won the championship last year. In attempting to defend his title, Dalal will battle not just Ashwin, but also independent racer Saran Vikram, who is still in contention with 46 points and three races remaining. Competition isn’t as heated in the Formula Swift category, where TVS Girling’s Sudarshana Rao, on 70 points, starts the final round 14 points ahead of Wallace Sports’ Prithveen Rajan, needing just eight points from the final two races to clinch the title.
