“Adequate funds allotted for repairing old houses”

Minister inspects site for school on demand from residents

A different purpose in sight: Suba. Thangavelan, Minister for Slum Clearance, inspecting a site for school in Pudukottai.
PUDUKOTTAI: The Minister for Slum Clearance and Accommodation Control, Suba. Thangavelan, on Tuesday, inspected a site at the slum area of Balan Nagar here, identified for the construction of a high school building.
The inspection followed a demand by the local residents for upgrading the existing Government Middle School into a high school.
Addressing presspersons at the end of the inspection, the Minister said that the site belonged to the Slum Clearance Board.
A decision on allotting the site would be taken in consultation with the district administration.
On the housing proposals, Mr. Thangavelan said that the Slum Clearance Board has planned to construct houses at Peruvakkam in the East Coast Road. A survey would be taken for ascertaining the exact number of beneficiaries.
He also said that the Board had allotted adequate funds for the proper maintenance and repair works at the houses constructed by it years ago. He appealed to the allottees to extend their maximum cooperation for the expeditious completion of the repair works. “The residents should facilitate the repair and maintenance works by vacating their household articles,” he said.
The District Revenue Officer, J. Raghavan, was among those who accompanied the Minister during the inspection.
