14 buildings, two sheds on raja kaluve razed Property valued at Rs. 5 crore recovered Bangalore: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Wednesday demolished 14 RCC buildings, two sheds and two compound walls that had been constructed on the raja kaluve at Gaddebayalu village, Sunkadakatte, Herohalli subdivision. Sources in the BBMP told The Hindu that all the structures had encroached upon the raja kaluve. The demolition commenced at 8 a.m. under heavy police protection. Officials were able to recover property worth Rs. 5 crore. The sources said that nine earthmovers were used to demolish the encroachments. The structures had come up on 700 metres of the raja kaluve. Senior officials visited the spot and oversaw the demolition, it is said. Officials said that the owners had been informed when the BBMP conducted a joint survey in the area sometime ago. “However, we did not issue any notice to the owners. We did not want them to approach the court seeking a stay order,” they said. Residents from nearby areas supposedly supported the civic authority’s decision to remove the encroachments. The sources said that the area, which was near the tank bund, was often flooded. They added that the civic authority had identified many other areas where structures had come up on raja kaluves and storm water drains.
