Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram: The Regional Cancer Centre is observing Breast Cancer Awareness month from October 1 to 31. The International Breast Cancer Awareness Day falls on October 18. Breast cancer is one of the most commonest cancers found among women. Even though breast cancer can be cured if detected early, most women are unaware of the danger signs. Most of the cases are diagnosed very late, making treatment very difficult. Various programmes have been planned by the RCC in October to generate more awareness among women on the early detection of breast cancer through regular self-examination and periodic screening tests. A free clinic will function at the RCC from October 1 to 31 for breast cancer detection, early screening and for clearing the doubts of women on the subject. The clinic will be open from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. from Monday to Friday. All women above 30 years of age can make use of this facility for early screening. Women can contact the RCC PRO (Ph. No. 2522288) between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. for fixing a date for consultation at the clinic. Special awareness classes for breast cancer patients and the public, continuing education programmes on the topic for doctors, get-together of breast cancer survivors and open forum on the topic have been planned for the month at RCC.
