So sweet: Children help a chef decorate cupcakes, meant for the ‘Cupcakes for a cause’ event, in Chennai on Wednesday. CHENNAI: Cupcakes, whether served fresh from the oven or with dollops of cream or topped with cherries, make up for every occasion. Now, Hot Breads and The French Loaf gives you more reasons to take them home. As part of the on-going Joy of Giving Week, these two retail outlets spread across the city are contributing the proceeds collected from the sale of cupcakes to the children of the Mahesh Memorial Paediatric Wing, at the Adyar Cancer Institute. On Wednesday, a bunch of children from the hospital were invited to the Hot Breads outlet in Adyar, where they tried their hand at decorating the cupcakes before putting it out on sale. The ‘Cupcakes for a cause’ will be observed on October 2 and 3 where the entire proceeds collected from the sale on these two days will go to support the children and their treatment. According to M. Mahadevan, director, Oriental Cuisines, cupcakes were chosen as children love them. “On an average three dozen of cupcakes are sold in each of our outlets, with this cause we hope to see at least 40 dozens sold at each store. We are not promoting the product but the cause,” he says. A box of four cupcakes is priced at Rs. 200.
